How to conquer comparison

Petitegrl @labelswithlattes

Let's face it, comparison is our worst enemy and it can really suck out the life of us if we allow it to.

The media and many brands fall into this chain reaction of using similar methods to help promote themselves. It not only purposely includes women who appear "perfect" but it creates a unrealistic approach to how women should look like. It is not healthy nor does it make sense to make women feel as if they are not already enough.

“It’s not a clear representation of real women”

When it comes to feeling compared or being compared to something you see through social media, an online store or an ad blown up on a billboard, my best advice is to remind yourself that they are just an image of the brand. They are just normal people at the end of the day and there is no need to put them higher than you.

"Who you are means so much more than looking like what you see"

Comparison is also a trap. I am sure we are all aware of that yet we can easily fall back into it.

When I notice myself begin to compare myself I take a pause with my thoughts and think of 1 thing I am proud about myself. For instance, I am proud that I created Petitegrls and have built a community around it.

When you are able to hear at least 1 good thing about yourself, it can really blur out the unwanted insecurities you may feel in that very moment.

Our minds are more wired to think negatively than positively because we want to protect ourselves. However the key is to trick your mind into thinking more positively so you will not be as wired to compare yourself to others every time.

Of course this is a lot easier said than done however making the effort to give this a try is better than being stuck in the same position.

Petites

I personally feel like as petite women we have faced difficulties with self acceptance because there hasn't yet been a real connection or much representation.

Models are taller than the average height, thin and built to perfection.

How can WE relate to that?

However, I do find that millennials and GEN Z are creating a huge shift for our society today. We are not only seeing more inclusive bodies within fashion brands but we are creating more of a real connection with real people. This is the beginning of change and I hope to see more petite representation through this transition.

With more representation, we can feel more secured with who we already are & we can break away from any level of comparison.
